Childhood of the Investment Kings
Steve JOBS: Steven Jobs spent his childhood in
Silicon Valley. He was the type of child
who liked to stick to himself. He only did competitive swimming, and no team
sports. He was interested in electronics and gadgets, because he would spend a
lot of time in his neighbor's garage, who worked at Hewlett-Packard Company, (a
computer company). He attended
Crittenden Middle School, but the area that the school is in is a poor area
where kids were bullied. Steve was bullied at that school. It must have been
too much for him because one day, he came home and told his adoptive parents
that he wanted to transfer schools or he would never attend school again. He
was 11 when he said this. The parents agreed and the family moved to another
city, which was Los Altos, where he was able to attend Cupertino Junior High.
Later on he joined the Hewlett-Packard Explorer Club, where he saw his first computer at the age of 12. He was impressed with the computer and knew he wanted to work with computers. He started to go to school at Cupertino Junior High, but transferred to Homestead High School, located in Cupertino, California. It is at Homestead High School, that he took his first electronic class. In this electronic class, he made friends with Bill Fernandez. Bill also loved electronics.
Jeff BEZOS: Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen was born in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, on January 12, 1964, the son of Jacklyn (née Gise) and
Theodore Jørgensen.[14] His biological great-grandfather John Jørgensen
immigrated to the U.S. from Holbæk in the Zealand region of Denmark in the late
19th century.[15][better source needed][16] At the time of his birth, his
mother was a 17-year-old high school student and his father was 19.[17] After
completing high school despite challenging conditions, Jacklyn attended night
school while bringing baby Jeff along.[18] After his parents divorced, his
mother married Cuban immigrant Miguel "Mike" Bezos in April 1968.[19]
Shortly after the wedding, Mike adopted four-year-old Jorgensen, whose surname
was then changed to Bezos.[20] The family moved to Houston, Texas, where Mike
worked as an engineer for Exxon after he received a degree from the University
of New Mexico.[21] Bezos attended River Oaks Elementary School in Houston from
fourth to sixth grade.[22] Bezos's maternal grandfather was Lawrence Preston
Gise, a regional director of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in
Albuquerque.[23] Gise retired early to his family's ranch near Cotulla, Texas,
where Bezos would spend many summers in his youth.[24] Bezos would later
purchase this ranch and expand it from 25,000 acres (10,117 ha) to 300,000
acres (121,406 ha).[25][26] His maternal grandmother was Mattie Louise Gise
(née Strait), through whom he is a cousin of country singer George Strait.[27]
Bezos displayed scientific interests and technological proficiency, and once rigged an electric alarm to keep his younger siblings out of his room.[28][29] The family moved to Miami, Florida, where Bezos attended Miami Palmetto High School.[30][31] While Bezos was in high school, he worked at McDonald's as a short-order line cook during the breakfast shift.[32] He attended the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida. He was high school valedictorian, a National Merit Scholar,[33][34] and a Silver Knight Award winner in 1982.[33] In his graduation speech, Bezos told the audience he dreamed of the day when mankind would colonize space. A local newspaper quoted his intention "to get all people off the earth and see it turned into a huge national park".[35] In 1986, he graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a 4.2 GPA and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree (B.S.E.) in electrical engineering and computer science; he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.[36][37] While at Princeton, Bezos was a member of the Quadrangle Club.[38] In addition, he was elected to Tau Beta Pi and was the president of the Princeton chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS).[39][40]
Elon MUSK: Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in
Pretoria, South Africa. As a child, Musk was so lost in his daydreams about
inventions that his parents and doctors ordered a test to check his hearing.
At about the time of his parents’ divorce, when he was 10,
Musk developed an interest in computers. He taught himself how to program, and
when he was 12 he sold his first software: a game he created called Blastar.
In grade school, Musk was short, introverted and bookish. He
was bullied until he was 15 and went through a growth spurt and learned how to
defend himself with karate and wrestling.
Family: Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, is a Canadian model and
the oldest woman to star in a Covergirl campaign. When Musk was growing up, she
worked five jobs at one point to support her family.
Musk’s father, Errol Musk, is a wealthy South African
engineer.
Musk spent his early childhood with his brother Kimbal and
sister Tosca in South Africa. His parents divorced when he was 10.
